Courage isn’t something you’re handed. It’s something you build moment by moment. When life feels overwhelming, healing requires movement, and movement requires faith. If you’re craving growth but fear is holding you back, this is your reminder: You can move forward one breath at a time.
“I am learning every day to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be to inspire me and not terrify me.”
Tracee Ellis Ross
Courage Is Not the Absence of Fear.
When my boys were younger, they loved the stories of Xavier Riddle. These tales of time traveling best friends offered children a glimpse into historical fact with a message of encouragement in every one. While my television and bookshelves were covered with characters of modern and past iconic figures, there was one line that stayed with me. “Courage is bravely moving forward, even when you’re scared.” These words spoken by a fictional depiction of Harriet Tubman as a child embedded themselves in my heart and remain there today. Because it’s true. Courage isn’t something that you’re handed, or even something that comes natural, when life gets hard. It’s something you earn, moment by moment, breath by breath, choice by choice. Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the willingness to keep walking while fear clings to you. It is showing up with trembling hands and a steady soul.
Healing Requires Movement and Faith.
This has been on my mind a lot lately. As I listen to so many women, including myself, speak about feeling overwhelmed, angry, or frightened. We seem to be in a cultural cycle of needing to shed old thoughts, patterns, and trauma. To move toward this healing takes courage. Quiet, thoughtful, steady courage to take the first step. Into a difficult conversation that you’ve been avoiding, because speaking your truth is risky. Into surrendering control, because vulnerability can feel dangerous. Into uncertainty, because the familiar feels safe, even if we know we don’t belong there. Growth requires movement, and movement requires courage. Faith in motion with grace and patience. So I ask you, dear friend, where do you want to grow, heal, or go right now but you are struggling to take the first steps? And I remind you, speak gently to yourself. Offer yourself grace and patience, but step forward in faith. One breath at a time, find your courage.
